Jeny's Books

As a kid I loved the Hardy Boys most. Nancy Drew was OK, but the Hardy Boys weren't girls, so they were way more exciting! I have always loved mysteries and some fantasy. My favorites now are Mary Higgins Clark - super easy to read and they sometimes give me the chills since they are so creepy. I really love the Cadfael mysteries! They combine my love of mysteries with gardening (he's an apothecary)and old England. Very exciting! Tara likes things like Pride and Prejudice and Emma, so I don't usually read what she suggests. Boring! Spencer had inspired me to read things I normally wouldn't just because I want to know what he likes to read. He loves Michael Crichton novels especially Sphere and State of Fear. He has also introduced me to Neil Gaiman and I have to say I do love his writing. He is very imaginitive! He wrote Stardust (the movie is better than the book, but he came up with the original idea) and my favorite of his books, Neverwhere and Anansi Boys. Great books!

P.S. There's probably a gazillion new posts. Don't miss them!

Mindy's Books

I loved Anne of Green Gables books and Trixie Belden books when I was young. I still have them in hopes that my girls will enjoy them. I still like mysteries, like Mary Higgins Clark books. They're predictable, but clean and good stories. I like Dean Koontz. I like to read some of the classics that were too much for me as a child. I just read a great little book by Glen Beck called The Christmas Sweater. I love to read historical novels too, like Richard Peck books. I just like to read. Almost anything that is clean and well written and not too "romantic". I'm not into romance anymore.

Question of the Week.

After an extreme lacking in the answers to the last question of the week..... here's another one. H0pefully you all answer it this time!

What was your favorite book or book series when you were young? What do you like to read now? Do you have a favorite author?

Heidi's First Make-up

I think my first experience with make-up was for Sally Deford's stake musical that I don't remember the name of. I was just part of the chorus for it, but I still got to wear make-up and it was a lot of fun. Jeny helped me out with it. It was only a month or two before I turned 14, so it got me excited and ready to turn that magical make-up age. Since high school I have quit make-up altogether, with the exception of mascara (the only thing that doesn't touch my skin). The combination of acne, that I still haven't grown out of, and excema make it very difficult to wear anything on my skin. Good thing Jason likes the natural look!

Dad's Makeup First

So, I imagine you will all think it strange to have Grandpa be among the first to respond to this question, but I assure you the experience was extremely traumatic to me, as follows.

When I was four years old, my father was in Europe as a soldier in WWII. My mother, sister Lynne and I lived with my Aunt Rita Miller in Pocatello, ID. Both of my mother's sisters lived in Pocatello and both had sons about my age. Bill is Rita's son and Stephen is Adrienne's son. Bill now lives in Post Falls, ID, and Stephen is an attorney in Boston.

Our mothers had enrolled all three of us in a tap dancing class. I remember very little about that class.

BUT, the teacher was apparently very popular and had huge classes in all kinds of dance. Enough that she produced a huge dance review in one of the local theaters on the west side of Pocatello every year.

I remember kinda looking forward to that dance review, until my mother told me that I had to wear lipstick! I was mortified. I can remember running away from Mom and Rita on the night of the review, and locking myself in the bathroom.

It took a lot of persuasion and even threats, but I finally relented. That is one of those childhood memories that is still vivid. I remember how disgusted I was as my mother applied that lipstick.

But, I guess I survived. I don't even remember much about the dance review itself. I think we got out of the dance lesson business immediately thereafter. Could it be that my reluctance to wear lipstick had anything to do with that? I wonder.

Don't miss all the new posts!

Birthday Makeup Post

I have been out of town for the past week and a half. Therefore, not much posting has happened. Here I am catching up on all the birthdays I missed.

Happy Birthday to Alex! he turned 12 on May 1st. We hope you had a wonderful birthday! And congratulations on getting the Priesthood. I am not sure if you have it yet or when exactly, I just know it is close so congrats!

Happy Birthday to Kylee
! She turned 17 on May 6th. We hope you had a very fun birthday and we love you!

Happy Birthday to Mark!
Mark also had a birthday on the 6th and he turned the big 45! Happy Birthday Mark! P.S. This is the only picture I had, super small. How about you guys get on that???

Last but not least of the birthdays I missed, Happy Birthday to Kade! Kade turned 1 on May 12th. He had a pretty sad day, he was very tired and sad most of the day. He wouldn't let Aaron or me out of his sight... too afraid we would leave him again! We did have a fun little party though!

Anyway, I hope you all had fantastic-ly fun birthdays! Sorry I missed them!

Mindy's Makeup First...

The first time I wore makeup for real was when I was visiting Jeny at BYU. I was 12, so not too much younger than the house rules allowed for makeup. She taught me how to put it on, and I remember thinking I looked kind of silly. I don't remember if Mom and Dad knew, but it wasn't a big deal. I got to do most things earlier, because I was so tall that I always looked older than I was. Although, I do remember Mom and Dad were very disappointed in me when I got my ears pierced 3 days before my 18th birthday.

Question of the Week

Do you remember the first time you wore makeup? Did you do it behind your parents' backs or did they encourage it? I'm confident that with our theatrical background, even the men can answer this question!

REAL Dragon Eggs

So I've asked a few people in the family and nobody seems to know that we have real dragon eggs. Maybe if I put it here you will see the post. For some reason it didn't show up as a new post on the list to the left here when I put it on my family site. But for real, we have dragon eggs! I guess it doesn't take much for a couple of dragons to mate, since they were not together very much. Here's what we got on Wednesday - 12 of them! So if anyone wants a dragon, let me know and I'll save an egg just for you. It would be super cool if you would come to my house to pick it up, too!!!
