Jason and I had dinner with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court last Friday. Every year the law school has someone come speak. Every three years that speaker is a supreme court justice. This year happens to be the year for the supreme court justice, and also happens to be the centennial year of the law school, so Chief Justice Roberts was the speaker this year. This is a big deal. It's the first time ever that a chief justice has come to Idaho officially. Jason volunteered to help with security throughout the day, so he and a guest (me) were invited to attend the banquet that was given for Justice Roberts. There were probably 100 people there, but we sat at the table right next to his. He seems like a genuinely good man. Jason said earlier in the day as he was being introduced for his lecture, a story was told that a couple of weeks ago Justice Roberts was late to an important dinner with senators in DC because his son's pinewood derby was the same night. He attended that first and made it to the dinner in time for dessert. Jason had stars in his eyes the whole night, like he was worshipping a teen idol. It was a really neat experience.

That is really cool! I sang once for Justice Scalia and got to chat with him afterwards. It's strange to realize that these people we hear about all the time are real people just like us. What a great experience!

We are both proud and grateful for all the good experiences that Jason is having in law school, and for the promise it holds for them for the future. Our Father in Heaven is truly good to is, is He not?
I was waiting for someone to ask about the menu. We're all about food, after all! We had prime rib, some kind of salmon thing that I didn't try of course, a beautiful salad with lots of different kinds of greens, a lentil salad that I also didn't try, but lots of people were gushing about how good it was, asparagus that was probably the best I've ever had, rolls, and of course potatoes - scalloped. And for dessert there was cocolate mousse with crushed oreos on the bottom, cheesecake, and chocolate pie with raspberry sauce. It was an awesome meal!
What a great experience. I hope you're making a scrap book of all his law school experiences! Give Jason a High 5 for me!!
